Press Release
Spalding Group founder responds to MoveOn.Org Obama bumper sticker giveaway – will give away up to a million “NOBAMA” bumper stickers

Louisville, KY July 31, 2008 – Ted Jackson, founder and president of Spalding Group, a principal supplier to the last six Republican Presidential campaigns, official licensee to the 2000 and 2004 Bush-Cheney campaigns, and creator of the McCainStore.com online store, announced today his plan to personally fund the giveaway of up to one million of the hugely popular “NOBAMA” bumper stickers. Jackson is making this independent expenditure to underwrite the overall NOBAMA bumper sticker giveaway expense as a direct response to a MoveOn.org offer of a free Obama bumper sticker.

Spalding Group initially created and recently introduced its NOBAMA product line in answer to overwhelming requests from its hundreds of thousands of customers. Since the line’s introduction, the sale of these items has been unprecedented. When asked about the NOBAMA product line success and his personal one million NOBAMA bumper sticker giveaway, Jackson responded, “MoveOn.Org is an ultra-liberal organization that, in reality, speaks for a very small minority in this country. This isn’t a coronation. As confirmed by recent polls, there are currently an equal number of individuals that oppose Obama as there are that support him, and they want to be heard.”

To receive a free “NOBAMA” bumper sticker, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope and mail the request to;

“Anyone who knows me or knows my background knows that I’ve been a Republican activist for over 30 years, even before I founded Spalding Group. This is something I personally wanted to do to make a statement along with many others that share my sentiment,” stated Jackson.

About Spalding Group
Founded in 1984, Spalding Group has been a principal supplier for the last six Republican presidential nominees. As 2000 and 2004 official licensee to the George W. Bush for President Campaigns, Spalding Group created the award-winning George W. Bush Online Store, www.georgewbushstore.com. Serving Republicans exclusively, Spalding Group provides campaign materials and services to hundreds of Republican organizations and candidates across the country. Having earned the national reputation as the “Republican Source”, Spalding Group’s primary focus for nearly 25 years has been helping to elect Republicans.
Some more stuff for the Grist Mill:
By doing so, Ted Jackson appropriates a basic logic of postmodern capitalist culture:
...
It is also the prototype for Ted Jackson's version of political life under a Republican market society. The way to win "brand loyalty," for the long-term, with carefully targeted populations, is to practice politics the QVC way, and fuse the identity of the organization (the Republican party) and icons of its leader ("W") with that of its appropriately chosen and high quality commodities. It's a building block to "stage six," where the high-quality branded commodity (and the services connected to that commodity) are a synecdoche for the Republican Party, and ultimately, for the government of the United States. This is what I believe that Ted Jackson meant by titling his article for PPB Online, "Riding the Coattails of Brand Loyalty."[29]

THe Commonwealth Group:
Florida firm buys lobbying business

The Commonwealth Group last month sold its lobbying business to Tallahassee, Fla.-based Southern Strategy Group, which will open an office -- Southern Strategy of Kentucky LLC -- in Frankfort in the coming weeks. Southern Strategy currently operates offices in seven additional Southern states.

Terms of the sale of Commonwealth's lobbying business were not disclosed. The business' 21 lobbying clients accounted for about 38 percent of The Commonwealth Group's estimated $1.3 million in revenue in 2005, Mulloy said.

Power Creative, a Louisville-based advertising firm, has added The Commonwealth Group, StorageUSA Inc. and Mulloy Properties Inc. to its list of clients, according to a news release.

Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

The Commonwealth Group is a Louisville-based public-policy and public-affairs firm that focuses on communication strategies and lobbying activities. Power Creative was hired to redesign and update the firm's Web site.

Local groups begins marketing campaign to support president

Business First of Louisville

Ted Jackson, a partner in the Louisville governmental affairs firm The Commonwealth Group and owner of the English Emprise marketing company, is leading a local effort to show support for President George W. Bush and the U.S. military.

In response to a national billboard campaign by the Peace Roots Alliance (peaceroots.org), Jackson and a group of 65 donors have purchased a billboard along Interstate 65 south that reads "Support President Bush and Our Troops."

Jackson also is establishing a Web site, http://www.supportpresidentbush.net, which is set to go online this weekend. Through the site, he plans to provide free artwork for similar billboard campaigns across the country, according to a news release.

In the release, Jackson said he organized the effort in response to nearly 30 billboards in Louisville purchased by the Summertown, Tenn.-based Peace Roots Alliance that read "Peace is Patriotic." The group also has organized rallies in Washington, D.C., and around the country advocating nonviolence and protesting the conflict with Iraq.

The release said Jackson also is collecting donations for additional billboards in Louisville. Each billboard costs $6,500.

A Louisiville, Ky.-based public relations firm has branched into Music City.

Peritus Public Relations will open its Nashville office on Dec. 1 in the SunTrust building downtown. Leading the office is public relations veteran Alan Hall.

The firm specializes in grass-roots efforts for companies and organizations and got its start as political consulting firm The Commonwealth Group. In 2005, the company switched to public relations and public affairs and now works in a variety of industries, including health care, airlines and the automotive industry and real estate.

Firm President Tim Mulloy says the firm had been eyeing Nashville as an expansion target for the past year.

Creative Alliance Inc., the city's largest advertising agency, has decided to spin off its public relations division and allow it concentrate on growing its public relations and public affairs clients.

The new company, Creative Alliance Public Relations Inc., will be led by division president Jessica Loving, who will add the title of CEO. The new company will be owned by Loving, Creative Alliance Inc. chairman and CEO Debbie Scoppechio, and Creative Alliance President Rick Duffy.

The new public relations agency will move its offices on Friday from the Starks Building at 455 S. Fourth St. to 200 S. Fifth St., where it will share space with a new strategic partner, The Commonwealth Group.

  • 'Nobama' campaign gets big push in Louisville

    Company offers merchandise

    By Joseph Gerthjgerth@courier-journal.com • August 12, 2008

Among the trendyrestaurants along Frankfort Avenue, in an area that almost certainly will vote heavily for Democrat Sen. Barack Obama in November, sits the de facto national headquarters for the "Nobama" campaign.

Workers there stuff T-shirts, campaign buttons and bumper stickers -- possibly a million free bumper stickers -- into envelopes that will be sent to Republican activists, disaffected Democrats and conservative independents around the country.

It's all the brainchild of Louisville Republican strategist and businessman Ted Jackson, who is trying to counteract any potential groundswell for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee by distributing much of the merchandise for a price -- but up to 1 million "Nobama" bumper stickers for free.
